Got it today and did a 30 min/350 clean-out burn. Other GMG owners, would you recommend an oil & smoke seasoning on it before I do my first cook?

Not a GMG owner but I really don't think oil sprayed every where helps much with most of the stuff powder coated or stainless, it will get a good coating the first time you do a long cook. That said I did give mine a lite spray of canola oil and that didn't stop the heat defuser from rusting

Congrats. That looks great. Light oil will not make a big difference one way or the other. The steel/paint seem to be high quality. Get a multiple probe therm and check the left/right/middle temp differences. On mine, moving the heat shield one way or the other makes a big difference on temps. Maybe that has improved on the newer models.

I don't own that particular brand but when I broke in the Youder I did my initial burn out then threw a brisket in there the next day. My theory is cooking in it will season it. I've seen some really complex procedures for seasoning cookers but I've had great results just doing initial burn outs and then using the heck out of the cooker. I don't think there is a wrong way so do what you feel good with.

Just keep on cooking! You will love the prime, I do! If it’s the wifi version, they just recently released 1.4 official firmware.

Thanks everyone!

Got this in the fridge, ready to go on Friday evening.

Congrats on your new smoker. They are awesome to cook with.

Line your drip tray with Alfoil mate. Spray grates with canola oil. Makes easy cleaning.

Alrighty, first cook is in the books! Sorry for so little q-view, but it was an overnighter and I was exhausted. Also, pardon the first pic. Ol' Daniel was chugging out a nice cloud that got illuminated by the flash. :D

I've cooked on a cheap offset, an ECB, and a WSM, and I have to say, this is the best pulled pork I've made yet. I was prepared for the expected lighter smoke flavor that pellet grills are known for, but it penetrated nicely on this. Very flavorful and delicious. I used Lumberjack Competition Blend. 20190803_004302[1].jpg 20190803_134818[1].jpg

Looks damn tasty. Your maiden cook looks like it was a winner.

My tasters prefer the sweet taste of the smoke compared to my old smoker.

I keep my GMG well cleaned and Maintained and it has never failed me yet.

Since I started cooking on my GMG I have found it so easy to pull off delicious meals, on long cooks Ill go to work and control from the app, come home - Done :emoji_wink: Previously I would be up all night tending, thats a thing of the past now.

All the best with your voyage into pellet grills.
