Drat I have been looking forward to the throwdown. I guess we will just have to wait.
I have been there done that more than once. People sure get defensive about their cooking. I try to avoid a throwdown preferring to just set out some really good Q on the table and tell folks to dig in. Usually that is enough, but there is always a buttinski that trys to get something going between you and some other aspiring bbq genius.
One of the big things is that a whole lot of people absolutly have to have their Q drowning in a sweet tomatoey sauce, I know because that person used to be me. Now I always serve it with a bowl of sauce on the side and admonish them to please try it without sauce first. I make a lot of converts that way. Then too if you must use sauce especially on ribs It should be caramalized onto the meat not just slathered on. Most folks don't want to wait for that last step, a shame.
The true test of course would be judged without sauce so you can actually taste the flavour of the meat.
My kids prefer a Mcdonalds burger to a hamburger made with real ground beef instead of the pressed cardboard the fast food joints serve, its what they are used to.
Is tomatoey even a word?
