Hey all, I will kick this off by saying… I was very fluent with computer things in my past job… which I enjoyed the first decade… last decade was hell! GPS is a nightmare for workers and their schedules.

“Help people understand the equipment you just installed… but don’t stay too long as you’ve other customers to get too… Hurry, but we don’t want to come back to this house if possible… your other job is waiting for you… what’s taking so long?”

So, not a fan of technology… but when I finally left… I had a hatred to all thing due to what my job entailed.

Seven years out of the industry… things very much change.

I will get to my point… I have always used Safari, Edge (now) for my browsing.

I recently heard of DuckDuckGo … and it has been working very well! It even scans sites and lets you know if they are legit.

It’s also just a free download! Not saying you should change by any means… just thought I’d post my limited, yet highly impressive experience so far.

If I have a problem, my kiddos just fix it!

Not a technical person anymore… now I spend more time hunting and fishing with my kids! They can help me now…

Get rid of Edge, it tracks you like no tomorrow. I use FireFox and Brave so give them a try, neither of them track you. I also use DuckDuck as they do not track you like Google

DuckDuckGo has some shady deal with Mircrosoft. If privacy is a concern I would suggest running your own instance of SearxNG. You're more than welcome to use mine if you feel safe to do so. I keep no logs at all. https://search.kylco.net/ is mine.

As far as browsers go, I use firefox with ublock extension, and hardened settings. But that just because I kinda nerd out over this stuff, hence the personal SearxNG instance.

I've been using DuckDuckGo for a few years now and haven't used Explorer at all since. I even use an email address from them. You use a current email account as DDG doesn't do email. It is basically a way to hide your real email account from others but when you use it your email can be anything you want with @duck at the end. The reply emails will go to your normal account. It allows you to send a reply if you want from your normal account but will send it back with the @duck instead of your @gmail, @yahoo, etc. I've had no problems with the browser or the email account.

Anymore, I use Safari for most everything, though I usually have Chrome up on the Mac as well. I haven't used IE/Edge since I retired--it was the default browser at work.

I do have Duck Duck Go, and TOR, available, but don't use them often.

Fun bit of trivia I can trot out when dealing with youngsters who just assume I'm too old to have the slightest bit of tech savvy: In 1993, when the world's first web browser (Mosaic, which later became Netscape) was revealed, I'm the guy who ended up on CNN Science and Technology Week, doing the first ever public demonstration. I don't always share with the younglings that I had absolutely nothing to do with developing Mosaic, or any other software for that matter. But my company had a partnership with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, and I spent a lot of time there using the tool for molecular modeling/computational chemistry, so I got tapped to show the world what it could do. The term 'web browser" hadn't even been coined yet.

I have duck and google and find duck a bit slow. I know google is tracking me but so is my phone, electronic purchases ,license plate readers ,traffic light cameras, Onstar etc.

For me I use Firefox with all telemetry settings off,AI disabled,tracking protection set to Strict and DNS and HTTPS set to use Cloudfare over my ISP. For extensions I have AdblockPlus,Ghostery,UblockOrigin,I also use Facebook Container because you'd be surprised at how many places where there's an input field for an email address that is tracked by FB,also use Google container for same reason.And my default search engine is Duckduckgo(no AI).

The vast majority of the time I use a VPN and run my browser sandboxed(Firejail) when online. And I try very hard to stay away from anything Microsoft or Google related,though this not always 100% possible hence the reason I do all of the above.

Using a firewall is good advice to.

All that and I always use a Linux based OS.

Edge does not start automatically on my 'puter so that's possible but don't remember how to do it. Maybe download Glary Utilities and modify the 'puter's startup file?
Should be able to go into Control Panel and uninstall Edge to get rid of it entirely.

There should be something in your task-manager to disable startup apps.

on newer versions of windows it will actually reinstall itself on next start up

They did, its not impossible but it does take some work.

Not delete, but you should be able to disable it.
