I know this is a stupid question, but does anyone carry insurance on their smoker? I made a large investment on a large smoker and would die if it was stolen. Just wondering

I have renters insurance but they didn’t want to cover it under that. They said they would classify it as a rv because it is mobile on wheels like a trailer

19dollars a month. Ouch. That’s why I was asking

If I bought a smoker for a couple of thousand, I would insure it at least the first year or two...JJ

Our Home Owners would cover it, like anything else, Lawn Tractor, Tools, TV, etc...
However You have to pay what your deductible is---Ours is set at $500.

I Don't know anything about Renting.

After the police investigation I’ll have to pull out the fried green tomatoes saying “ the secret is in the sauce “!!!!!

Lots of contractors put LoJack on the trailer style generators. I wonder if something like that would be a fit for your situation.

How about a ball lock. A good one though. Not the cheap cast aluminum ones that can be broken with a good swing of a hammer

I'm assuming that this is for private use only. Any business use at all changes things completely.

I wonder if the claim that it would need something like RV insurance is related to the common disclaimer that if it can be registered as a vehicle or trailer and it isn't registered that they won't insure it. That is pretty much in all business, homeowners and renters policies.

States vary by the rules as to what has to be or even can be registered. For example, when we lived in New York a trailer mounted smoker would be considered a piece of equipment that happened to have wheels as long as it didn't have additional storage on board. Any additional storage (think wood rack or such) changes the rule and would mean that you have to register it. Here in North Carolina if it has wheels and hits the road at all it has to be registered.

I'd ask them to show you the specific paragraph of you policy to which they are referring. They may be thinking of it like an unregistered camper and not as a back yard accessory that happens to have wheels......

If your not moving it around allot then just take the wheels off and set it up on blocks.

If its a trailer and and you have tags on it then your auto insurance would be the ones to cover it. I know my trailer is registered and my auto covers it
