Finally getting to play with my new inkbird thermometers and I’m kind of disappointed. Both are “wireless” which is nice however I’m kinda disappointed unless I’m doing something wrong. They are both suppose to have up to a 300’ range but if I have them outside my garage with it closed (maybe 35-40’ distance) they disconnect. They will also disconnect if the charging case (brain) isn’t sitting in the bottom storage grate on my kettle which is an issue today because of rain. I tried to have it right inside my garage with the door closed (about 5’ away from my grill) and won’t stay connected. I have 2 probes in 2 separate pork butts and the thermometer’s are less than 2” apart and ambient temp is reading 282* on one and 313* on another and the temp seems to not update very often bc when I open and closed the lid to see how fast it adjusts it doesn’t even move which is kind of annoying. Anyone deal with these issues on theirs or have any recommendations to try? I know inkbird made a post about not coming around anymore but looking for some peoples experience from here who have used them. I love the wireless but these have been more of a pain than tending to a stick burner so far in the 5 hours I’ve used them

May have to put it in a plastic lidded container or ziplock bag and move it higher on a shelf next to the grill or hang it from a handle IDK. The 300' is probably line of sight to the base and the more metal (garage door down?), walls or brick and no windows will reduce the range.

Bump….I tried it again and ended up pulling the thermometer out and just using an instant read. Pretty frustrating they are all new and pretty much unusable. Wouldn’t even stay connected to the case sitting on the bottom of my kettle now. Not sure how much closer I can get it but they are junk imo.

Not sure about the Bluetooth version but I have the wifi inkbird. No problems sitting 10 get away from the base just inside the garage. I prefer wifi as I'm the only person in the house that drives so if I'm out I can still see the temp.

Going to see how this G2 ThermoMaven Sub 1G BT to receiver (manual) or BT receiver to ph app or Wifi to phone app (smart app) triple threat is. View it how you like it. The ThermoPro tempspike XR is rf and flawless on holding a connection, being rf but wanted to try longer probes and test the the sub 1G BT at 3,000' line of sight and 700' closed container with 6 sensors in each probe for the anticipating algorithm "when to pull from cooker." The Thermoworks rfx still isn't where I'd expect it to be after the Beta program fail and still having independent reviews of not getting near the advertised charge life of the Gateway and probes. 45% off below at $109.99 dual probe. This is made by Typhur in California but I'm sure asssembled etc. anywhere just like the Thermapen isn't USA it's UK made in Worthing, UK by Electronic Temperature Instruments, LTD but Thermoworks sells it as theirs and if you buy anywhere except from them, then no warranty. So I like to test and give an independent review vs a manufacturer's. Nothing can be more miserable than the Thermoworks rfx release as they updated and asked customers to wait for many FIXES. Not me! It would have gone back to them after one week of testing regarding battery lies. Also, no alkaline batteries that fail and leak in expensive Thermapens vs rechargeable. Nothing is forever but one crappy alkaline battery wasting an expensive product isn't for me.

Bluetooth signals don't travel too well through walls and the like. Metal garage doors, even worse, think Farraday cage.
