hey guys looking for any input on a idea i have..  i have been making alot of smoked sausage and snack sticks  lately   and i just dont have enough room in my MES 30 to get enough done at one time. i am thinking about building a smokehouse in  my garage .  it will be vented out of course  and im leaning toward electric heating element  any thoughts and or concerns  i should be aware of?

You might want to check with your city ordinance department and see if it's legal since you could create a real fire hazard. I would recommend building a plywood smoker using Pop's plan.

Smoke will permeate any porous material. I will assume that you are talking about a detached garage. Once used as a smoke house it will always retain that smell. As for a building permit...........NO

i think there was some confusion?....  i am going to  build a plywood smokehouse 3x3x6 IN my garage  not turn my garage into a smokehouse.  it will be vented outside  just as you would a fireplace or a barrel stove. I'm just thinking  of keeping it inside just for the simple issue of keeping out of in-climate weather and  possibly control the heat a Little better

Just a couple things, what is your high summer temps?  Low winter temps?

Have a couple ft clearance between smokehouse and outside walls.Seal everything real good and if possible have a window or door you can open if necessary.

You will also have to feed air into it, so probably have a door or window open or open the garage door a foot.

Be prepared for crowds forming at your garage just to smell what's coming out of the chimney!  Oh, and making a LOT of new friends!

when I was researching the "smoke house forum" I think I looked just about at all of them to gain idea's & insight

on building my own smoke house, then finally settled on Pops and Nepas build.

There was one smoke house built in the corner of this member's garage just like you are planning

on doing, don't remember the thread/post's, but it's there, you'll have to do some research,

hope this helps,

al

Larry, morning..... I have had the same problem, not enough room.....  I may be nuts but think about this....   I have been contemplating running a flexible duct from the MES exhaust to another smoke chamber above... having a separate heater in it, if needed, and smoking more stuff at one time.....   One smoke source, two smoke chambers..... I do lay awake at night thinking about weird ideas at times....  Dave
