Doug, I have walked the same path you are walking now. October 18, 2016, I got the call I was worried about from my urologist...the pathology came back positive. This was after my 3rd set of biopsies.
The thing about biopsies are is they're not infallible. Doctors know where the cancer usually shows up and will take a bunch samples in those areas, 14 for me the 1st 2 times. Fortunately for me, I had a urologist that even though he couldn't find the cancer, he wouldn't say that I didn't have it. He referred me to another urologist at a different hospital where they had a different technology, mpMRI, that located 2 suspicious spots on my prostate, places where cancer isn't usually seen and they don't typically biopsy. After my 3rd set of biopsies, this time through my stomach, the cancer was found. After listening to my options, I had a prostatectomy using the da vinci robotics on Nov. 25, 2016, the day after Thanksgiving or Black Friday

.
If it weren't for my original urologist having a feeling that something was going on, I may not be here today. I opted for the surgery over radiation because I was told that surgery, should it be required later on, is very difficult after radiation due to the damage to the area around the prostate that radiation can cause.
I know this is a long post about my experience, but maybe it will help you come up with more questions to ask that will help you make whatever decision you decide on. Also to all you men out there, go get tested!! There's no reason for men to die from prostate cancer, it is one of the most curable cancers there is...with early detection.
Doug, just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you continue down this path...
