How's this for smoke? Recycling center fire

There's a huge fire burning, 1/3 of the Columbus firefighters are on it, they requested the electric power be cut, and there's a hell of a lot of fuel like plastic and stacked pallets.

The smoke is thick enough to show up on the weather radar. That is some black poisonous stuff. I'm lucky it doesn't happen to be blowing this way.

Nice.... now all that crap will be blowing right over top of PA and NY. It's bad enough that acid rains from the Midwest nearly destroyed the Northeast's Brook trout fisheries in the 60's and 70's so thank you OHIO!!

With all the water being poured on it, there's going to be some toxic crap washed into the storm sewers and then the streams.

We just had a similar fire. Small warehouse built out of steel and brick, but was filled with pallets. Took a lil over 6 hours to put out and layed out over a mile of 5in supply line and still needed 2 tankers to help with water supply. We also have a small recycling center in our district so hopefully it doesnt go up like that.

We had a propane tank explode and i was on a hose sitting in front of another trying to keep it cool so it wouldnt explode. Nobody was hurt.

Just curious folks. What was the status of the sprinkler systems in these facilities?

It was acres of pallets, looked like they were stacked at least 30 feet high. Nice fuel/air mix.

For my warehouse fire, i know there are sprinkler systems in all the other structures nearby but i dont know about the one that was on fire. It was an older building so may not have had one(couldve been grandfathered in so it may not have been required, but i dont know much about those laws), if it did, it clearly wasnt working. Even if it did it would not put it out. Theyre more for slowing down a fire such as these than extinguishing them. The whole site, inside and out was also filled with stacks and stacks of pallets as well as large pieces of metal, tractor trailers, and train tracks (which luckily were not being used at the time)

That's a lot of smoke! Which will then be followed by respiratory problems, sewage problems, acid rain, and all that fun stuff. I just wish that fires can be controlled, and eventually, prevented.
