Hello all,

I been searching and reading some great info , but could not find much on what others are doing to protect outside of your smoker ?

The only info i found was to treat it like a dutch oven (wiping it down before and after each use with veg. oil)

 TRUE OR FALSE

thanks

Many members do that so True others keep some high heat spray paint handy. I'm sure others have some different methods from those two

use it till it falls apart then you have a good reason to go buy the newest and coolest smoker that is out at that time!!

In my opinion most of the smokers that we buy from big box stores and home improvement stores aren't made to last like some of the older more expensive smokers out there.  so I don't even bother trying to keep mine up I have had my GOSM for 2 years now and it still works great with no maintenance

i'm planning on building my own RF based on what i have now, when my char broil SFB bullet smoker dies on me....but in the mean time i'll paint the outside of mine come this fall to help keep it looking nice...........bob

....

False, Oil attracts dirt. I just wipe my UDS down with a wet rag once in a while and touch it up with the rattle can.

Ive had my gosm 2 yrs and have used simple green on it once and that was 2 weeks ago

Thanks everyone for your advise, sounds like im just going to hand wash my smoke vault once in a while with simple green. (play it safe)

I have an older gosm im getting ready to powerwash and repaint. so maybe i'll try the veg oil on that to see what the outcome would be. (sometime you have to dance with the devil lol)

Mine is stainless steel, so I use those stainless steel appliance wipes.  Works great.

I've also heard of folks using Barkeepers friend cleaner.
