So I mounted a 3500 watt oven element at the bottom of a 55 gallon drum. Everything works fine except the smoke. I placed a aluminum disposable pie plate with chips on the element and it melted... See picture. Now I have three fire bricks under it so it is off the element by an inch and it's not smoking at all... What should I do?

That was my plan... just wanted some other input.  So basically just use a cast iron box or something to put directly on the burner?
