Well...just a little update on my homebuilt smoker.  It's still not pretty...but it works like a champ.  I started off with some short smokes, just to get a feel for it, but have since moved up to smoke ribs and butts.  One full chimney of unlit coals and one full chimney of hot coals will chug along at 250* with minimal fuss for 5+ hours.  It's almost 'set it and forget it.'   It's heated up and ready to go in about 30 minutes.  It really works much better than I had ever anticipated.  It works so well, I almost hate firing up my smoke 'n pit at home.

(not really, but it doesn't work nearly as well)

Here's some Q-view from a few trips to the lake. :-)

The finished product...chugging along.

With movable table, extremely handy.

It's pretty ghetto-fabulous looking I know, but it works great!

Hey Now!!!!!!

There is Nothing wrong with gheeto-fabulous.....  LOL

Ya know, if that thing was skinned with a little bit of sheet metal, people would be asking you what brand smoker it is and where did you buy it.

I was kinda bummed out that someone beat me to it. I was gonna say that I spy a pallet jack. :-)

Now the important question..... whats on the right, next to the ribs?

If ya don't mind, what part of kansas are you in? Theres getting to be more and more of us around here.

And thanks for sharing your pics.     Oh yes, was there a reason that you didn't want a UDS?

I'd like a UDS too, but I only have limited access to a truck to get a barrel.  If the timing is right, I plan on making one. :-)

edit:  Another reason was I happened to have all the parts on hand to build this smoker.  It only cost me some time and a dozen welding rods.

Those are just 2 slabs of ribs coiled.  That was an experimental rib rack I built, it really needs one more row of tines in the middle to hold the ribs apart better...so the last two got coiled up.

I live south of Olathe, Ks.

Cool deal on the coiled ribs. I'm in east independence but have family in shawnee. Plus I work thru out the city. If ya need a hand getting hooked up with a drum just let me know. I can probably help out.
