So i have an opportunity to pick up a hobart 1712 slicer locally for $150.  The seller states the indexing system needs to be replaced but everything else is fine.  Im not very handy but can follow instructions well.  Does anybody have any experience with this repair?  For $150 im assuming its a no brainer even considering the repair needed?  Thanks!

http://www.onesharpstore.com/page/page/1566532.htm  Sounds like the auto  slicer parts.... Here is a place that lists all the parts for Hobart.... Includes indexing system.....

Looks like a simple mechanical parts replacement....  Dave
Thanks for the quick response.  The seller also states that it never had a sharpening stone so i would need to purchase that as well i assume. The seller says it was only used to cut pickles.

Well, refurbished they go for $1100.....
I certainly know its a good deal.  It's just not something i will use very frequently and now im worried about the condition of the blade if it's never been sharpened along with the indexing system.  Since im not very handy i would hate to purchase it and be stuck investing $$ into it without really knowing what im doing lol.

Another option would be to contact a comercial repair shop. See what they would do the repairs for. Even if you drop a few hundred back into it, still a deal...

Just noticed this thread. Is the indexing system still there & seized up or are the parts missing? I just picked up a 1712 for $200 & the indexing system was a little tight on it so I took it apart, cleaned & lubed everything, put it back together & it works great. It's an easy task. If you have any questions about it let me know. If the parts are missing & you have to buy them for the indexing system it will be close to $300 for all them new. Sharpeners range from $100 up. If you need a new blade it will be around $200. These prices are for Hobart parts - there may be alternatives but I'm not sure... Check that the blade doesn't wobble or lots of play in the shaft ie bearing going out. Again any questions just let me know...
Evenen Dave, Just a quick note. I missed out on that Hobart slicer in Port Townsand.

Sorry to hear that Rich - thats a bummer...
