Normally i use store bought bags of chunk hickory. Now that im building a 250 gallon rig i need to acquire logs. Does it matter what type of hickory i use? I have shag bark hickory trees on my property. Has anyone ever used that type? Is there a commercial source for logs or do i need to strike a deal with a local tree service?

Shag-bark will work just fine.
In my case I use swamp hickory instead of shag-bark because I have a limited number of shag-bark trees on my property and I want preserve them for the nuts.
