I have airline tickets to go to Ft Lauderdale the last week of Feb. but not sure what to do. I got a great deal on tickets, $10 each way non stop from Columbus, but no idea where to stay. It'll be my wife, 3 year old daughter, and myself. Looking for a quiet place close to a beach within a few hours drive from Ft Lauderdale. Been looking at stuff around Naples and Bonita Springs but its hard to find a rental for just one week, most places only have a one month rentals.

Are you adverse to staying at a hotel? Also check Craigs List, they have a space for vacation rentals. Also, let me do some looking for you.

Right now I'm open to anyplace and anywhere. Would prefer to be close to a beach but have also looked into places around Orlando.

You're coming in the height of tourist season. In Ft. Lauderdale there was a Holiday Inn right across from the beach.

Here's an idea, check with dadwith4daughters, he's in the Orlando area.

Last time I was in Florida, I stopped at the Motel 6 http://www.motel6.com/accormaps/M6Pr...x?searchtype=C at Cocoa Beach, a very short walk to the beach, which is expansive. Near Disney and Cape Canaveral.
Fort Lauderdale itself has a great beach, but too touristy for me ( what isn't in Florida?)
I am very budget conscious!

Hope that gives you something to work with.

Thanks for all the info guys. I prefer to be as far away from the touristy stuff as possible. I will check this stuff out.

You have to get up to Saint Augustine though. Go through the fort, take a ghost tour, then go to the fort at night when they fire the cannons. That you will never forget, plus it's historic.

Did you really get tickets for $10. That's outstanding, I didn't know anything like that existed.

Yep $10 each way $40.80 total round trip, taxes and fees were more than the tickets. There is a new airline that flies out of Columbus and the first 10 seats on every flight are only $10. All the flights are non stop and they fly to about 15 cities across the country. Awsome deal. I just bought the tickets cause I got them for $10, have no idea what we are going to do but south Florida in Feb sounds a lot nicer than central Ohio in Feb!

See if you can locate the Bonita Beach Resort in Bonita Beach. Nice area. Good nightlife and great fishing if you can get out in the boat. Redfish will be moving thru the passes now.

If it were just me I'd be heading to keys and doing nothing but fishing, but I'll have the wife and kid with me. Still going to work in some fishing time no matter where we go.
