hey my question is this. i have a old country smoker, ranch hand model. i am using it for straight wood smokes. i am a bit worried about the fire box not being able to handle the temps and causing it to prematurely rust. i have been coating the inside with cooking oil after every cook thus far to try and prevent it and i also have been ensuring that the ash has all been remove. as far as the cooking oil coating it is only the fire box i am doing, not the entire inside. i figure the initial startup will burn off the oil before the temps get up. do yall think this is a ok practice or just a pure wast of time? thank yall for the help in advance.
