Hard to Believe

I never dined at the Woolworth store, but K&B had a killer grilled cheese and nectar soda!  Of course I was about 5 and had a very limited pallet.

Was there in the 60's. Now my question...The Deluxe Ham Sandwich is available on a HARD ROLL. How many here even know what that is?

When we first moved from NJ to PA, my wife and I went to a small Family Restaurant in town. My wife ordered her sandwich on a Hard Roll. The older server looked at my wife and said, " Young lady, in THIS restaurant, we throw out the rolls when they get Hard. Everything here is Fresh..."

I remember that well, Gary.

When I was just a Little Guy, I used to go there with my Mother for a Sammy & a "Cherry Coke".

That was in Quakertown, PA, in the 50s.

We had a Woolworth's and a similar store----"Sines 5 & 10".

The Woolworth's is gone, but the "Sines" is still there.

I think they are still made but sure a shootin' not 2 Cents!!! One of my favorites. I, like many here, remember Penny Candy when that meant 5 or even 10 pieces for a PENNY! Then it was ONE for a Penny. Now, fagetaboutit, got to give the kids $5 and they come home with maybe 5 candy bars!...JJ

At the FW Woolworth's in Levittown you could throw a dart to break a ballon to see how much you would pay for your sundae or banana split. Can you imagine that today? To us kids a "Pressed ham" was not a sandwich but something completely different.

In the old days they had a little wooden "barrel-like" thing that they would fill to measure a Penny's worth of candy.

I have one of those little barrels some place that my Mother got at a Yard Sale many years ago.

The Woolworths here had a great lunch counter that was a pleasure.

They also had an amazing selection of random products.
