Found a hugh dead standing black cherry tree yesterday right at the edge of the field. I figured if the wood is still solid then its probably already seasoned and ready to use on the smoker. So I dropped it and sure enough the wood was solid about 3/4 way up the tree just the top part was soft and rotten so I filled up the back of my pathfinder with already seasoned cherry. All the peices were light as a feather that's how dry they were except the about the bottom 3 ft of the tree was a little bit of moisture in it! I split it and knocked of the bark and and soft parts around the edges and used it last night on chicken breast. The best part is that the tree was forked and I only cut to smaller fork also there is even more good cherry wood waiting for me when I get more time.
