I do all my grilling and smoking on a Weber 22" kettle. I just recently came across these grommets and wanted to know if they are worth using for temp probe wires or if they're not that good of mood. I've also seen people cut a notch just below their lid on kettles as well. Any feedback would be great. FB_IMG_1604984804856.jpg

As far as I know these grommets were made for the Weber Smokey Mountain Smokers and would be difficult to install in their Kettle grills. Unless the most recent models of the kettles have a punch out for them (haven't looked at the most recent models).

All I did with my Kettle was (as you described above) grind out a groove in the rim of the bottom below the lid and it works great. No muss no fuss.

I hope this helps,

John

I like using foil. I wouldn't cut your lid. Drilling a hole just above your cook grate is a little tough. But putting them through the lid is a pain.

I used these on my SWM and they are great! I would do that before cutting the groove in the lid area.

I wouldn't cut the rim. Weakens it. Voids warranty I bet.
All true, but the grommet needs a 1.5" hole or so. likely wont weaken it but it drop the warranty. not sure how long the warranty is tho

Warranty is 10 years I think. A small hole of maybe 1/2 inch would probably be big enough for your probes. Wad up a little tin foil and stuff around the whole to seal it and plug it when not used. Your gonna find drilling a hole through the Weber kettle is a real bitch.

joetee joetee ,

Are you kidding me?

If a little grove in the rim of the Weber Kettle weakens it then it is not worth the money they ask for it.

I have been doing this for 50 years and NEVER had a Kettle grill collapse from weakness. Those things are built like a tank!
