Does the exhaust vent need to be opened on an offset smoker if I'm grilling in the firebox section and not "smoking"?
thanks

I guess it depends on whether you have the firebox lid closed or not.
This. If you are grilling with the lid open, the fire will get plenty of air flow, but if you're closing the lid, you would likely need the stack open to provide good air flow.
