Grill Grate on the WSM.

Does anyone know if the top grill grate is reading 230 degrees F. Measured by a Maverick 733, will the lower grate be hotter or cooler than the upper grate?

Should be cooler. Right near the heat diffuser (water pan) and the dome temp is usually warmer in my experience.

Also remember both racks are hotter at the OD versus in the middle, so depending on where on the rack you take the temp it can vary a bit as well.
