broke the new grill in yesterday, put it together and ran it on high for about an hour. this is the older model with a dial, not the digital board so there will be a learning curve to get my temps right. using my maverick and will continue to play until i do a spatch chicken on it sunday.

also interested in seeing whet the temp swing will be when i set it to 225 to 250.

i did notice that being on high for an hour and that fan blowing there was some ash deposited on the grill, is this normal or was it the cheap pellets i was using for the test runs?

anyone that has experience with this style grill please help me out here and increase my learning curve !!!!!

Thanks

Hey Goliath...Congrats on that new pit!  Post some pics of it to show it off a little.

In regards to the ash, the type of pellets you burn do make a difference as far as ash production.  One tip that might help...Have you already seasoned it?  You can spray or wipe a thin coat of cooking oil on the interior barrel surfaces, them run it (empty) pretty hot for an hour or two.  This will season it good, but also gives that flying ash something to adhere to besides your food or your grates.  Cooking a pound or two of bacon in there will also accomplish the same thing.

Happy Smoking!
