Does anyone else judge how how cold it is by how high the smoke rolls out of the grill or smoker?

I measure cold by 1) the ice crystals on my smokers, or 2) the additional prep time I need for snow removal. 
Yuck lol, will be in Ohio soon enough.
OMG! Ya'll keep that stuff up there. Makes this southern boy shiver just looking at it.
