Galvanized water main lifespan? and Stop Waste?

The inside of the pipe closest to the house was not too bad. They tried to pull the old pipe out and non if it would budge. the rust and corrosion on the outside is ridiculous. They used a thing they called a bullet (looked like a small missile) to bore through the old pipe making the hole about 3" then fed the new pipe through. it was interesting to watch.

One issue spun out of this. The house was grounded through the metal water main. SO now we are not grounded. A guys is coming next week to ground us to the earth with grounding rods and such.

might retract this...Found the elbow and the next segment of galvanized in the garbage and it was very rusty with good build up down a few inches. couldn't get a pic that was worth a crap...
