Second use of a MPS. 9 lb butt, started at 7:30 last night, had trouble getting smoke and regulating temp. Finally got both settled after a couple hours. Reached 154 degrees about 3:30 AM. Has stayed at that temp until now...just increased to 156. I've read about the stall, but this seems excessive. Been at this temp for 6 hours. Any words of wisdom, advice besides wait? Have not foiled...stopped smoke at 3:30 AM. Now at 14 hours into this smoke...

What temp are you smoking at?  are you using a a standard thermometer that cam with the smoker, or separate accurate one?

If you want to slow smoke, sometimes it can take that long.  On my last butt it was 2hours/lb;  since it was an 8.5lb butt, it took around 17 hours.  Next time I'm going to give myself some more time..

So how did it turn out? How long did it go?

I smoked two 9# picnics last weekend on an overnighter, when I woke up they were at 161* and stayed there for 4 hours and I don't know how long they were there before (cuz I was asleep). They went 22hours total and were the best PP Iv'e done yet!

I have yet to experience the stall (knock on wood). I did two 9 #ers for the 4th took about 12hours. Smoked at 250. foiled at 190 and placed in cooler. Perfect!

Ditto Cliff

IMHO you will get better results at 250° and above

225 is a bit low, but fine for ribs

I done a test smoke called the sacrificial picnic and intentionally bounced the temps around 225° to 325°
