So I'm doing beer butt chicken for the first time in my smoker I have made it before on the grill and in the oven. Looked up some smoker recipes for it and it says if your not using the steam pan in your smoker to baste it never basted it before cus the beer is what keeps it juicy any tips or advice

I don't think I ever basted any chicken I've smoked or grilled.

Hi there and welcome!

I've never basted chicken in any form.
Now, I HAVE Brined chicken with amazing results for chicken that doesn't come out dry.

I only brine whole chickens and chicken breast. Dark meat never seems to need it and always comes out juicy.

Another tip, if you can smoke at 325F or higher you can ensure your chicken skin doesn't come out rubbery. This is a one of the quirks with smoking chicken and you will very very likely get rubbery skin if you smoke under 300F. :)

Thanks guys for the tips. Chicken came out great. Finished it off in the oven to crisp it up a little bit

Ment yo get a pic of it but it was gone by the time I thought about it I'll have to work on that lol
