Hi all,

I just found this forum yesterday and have been fully immersed since. I have been a life long griller on propane, charcoal, and camp fire. I've always appreciated smoking and enjoyed eating it but have never tried. I am searching for a good beginner rig to buy. I am leaning towards a MES that is on sale at a Fleet Farm by my house for $99.

I look forward to talking BBQ with you all

Welcome aboard. Is this a stick burner? propane? or pellet? vertical? horizontal? though for 99bucks sounds like a good deal anyway. just gotta get in there are start them smokes. we'll help you figure it all out, and make recommendations when your are ready to upgrade.

It is a vertical, analog electric unit. Three shelves above the water pan and smoke box. Looks like it will do what I need it to do.

Welcome aboard glad to have ya join the fun. There are a good number of folks here that use the MES so info is plentiful. I don't happen to be one of them. I happen to like charcoal so my choice was the WSM. Let us know what and how you want to smoke. As there are allot of things that go into the final decision.

The sale item he references is the adventure series, they're offering the choice of propane or electric in that model.

My 2 cents as a MES owner? Spend a bit more and get one of the 30" or 40" cabinet models if you're going w masterbuilt. Then search these forums for "mailbox mod" in the end you'll be happy you did :-)

Good to know, then listen to fivetricks. He has you covered with the mailbox mod.
