Its was a local church competition I entered. There were only 10 competitors but it was a good experience and I got 2nd place trophy and 300 bucks. Lost by 2 points to a guy who had been doing big cooks for about 3 years. I'm pretty new to smoking (only about 6 months) and only 17. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
I have no clue how to upload a pic with my droid or I would upload one of the trophy.

Thanks! I did spares and muffin pan chicken. I was wondering about different cooking style for ribs and what type of sauce to use and such. Also I can't seem to get the crispy skin I want with the chciken thighs. I'm smoking on a WSM 22.5 in by the way

Stick to your wining recipe .

you need to cook at the 300f if you want crispy skin on the birds.

for the ribs you will fined plenty rubs and Sauces on the forum .play with them till you find the one that works for you.

What is wining? And I love the sauce I already make but for most everyone it is too spicy. I also heard in judging candy sweet is the way to go

Justin , congrats on the 2nd place. Now you got some of the guys there looking... advice?

Practice Patience , a real good habit in all phases of cooking.

Remember, when you're looking , you're not cooking...
