If you don't have a budget and you are looking for kind of a best of both worlds sort of thing you might want to look into a small pellet grill/smoker. There are some good options out there. I had a MES. I bought it when I was first trying to see if I was any good at all of this. I found it to be a lot more babysitting than I had originally thought. I had temp probe issues. took me a while to get the smoke figured out. Got caught up in a recall because the door would burst open, etc. I recently got a RecTec pellet smoker and what a difference it is. I made a 10 pound pork butt over the weekend. And honestly all I had to do after I got it prepared was put it on my smoker, make sure the hopper was full, and wait until it hit 195 (about 19 hours). There are advantages and disadvantages to everything but the pellet grills seem to be a good compromise between a stick burner and an electric smoker. I'm happy to answer any questions about the MES you have. I had it for about 5 years. Don't get me wrong I made some good stuff with it. However, it's not as easy as these companies would like to make it sound. I'm happy to share what I found worked best for me.
