Hello All

Sooo....does the computed firebox volume apply to all the firebox including any volume taken up under the fire grate or by the fire grate self (think bar grate here)? Or does it include only what is above the fire grate?

And am I correct that if I am up-sizing the firebox volume for a smaller pit that the firebox to cook chamber opening, volume under the plate, end of plate opening and exhaust stack volume all get raised too?

Thanks and best regards to all.

The openings for the FB/CC, under the RF plate and volume of the exhaust stack are all based on the size of the Cook Chamber... Any of those values can be increated but decreasing them will affect the function of the smoker...

Thanks, Dave. I hope that you are well.

But that's not what I'm asking. Does the calculation for firebox volume assume the entire firebox including any volume given to the grate and under the grate or does the calculation only include the volume above the grate for best performance?

For instance a bar grate and ash pan with sidewalls take up a fair bit of the volume and would require the grate to be raised further for lower air vents to stay under the grate so does that volume get added to the calculated firebox volume or not?

Or am I over thinking this.....

I’m thinking you are over thinking it. I’ve never included the volume of the grates in the firebox when calculating size. I guess if someone was going to use an oversized grate it would be something to consider.
