Newbie to the forum so thanks for letting me join.

I put a 13# brined turkey on my old Brinkman charcoal water smoker filled with a full charcoal pan and went away to take care of some errands. Started at ~ 9 am cst and removed the turkey at ~ 6 pm cst. When I carved the turkey I found it to be still be uncooked at the thigh joints. I didn't have time to finish cooking right then so I stored it in the fridge.Wondering if I can safely finish it in the oven at 300 degrees F until the internal temp of the breast reaches 145 F and the wings,thighs/legs each 165 F?

Thanks for any thoughts

I wouldn't see why not, the last few times I smoked turkey I smoke for 3-4 hrs then put into a roasting bag and finish in the oven, have even done that with a popup timer that worked well.

9 hours did I read that correctly? What temp did you smoke it at? Poultry takes on smoke rather quickly and is easy to ruin by over smoking. You may want to smoke it at a higher temp above 325*. You'll still get a smokey profile plus you'll get a crispy skin.

While I know I probably messed up a turkey I thought I should give it a shot and try to salvage it. My biggest concern is the possibility of it being spoiled having gone from the smoker to the refrigerator overnight and back into the oven at 300 degrees F until the internal temp of the breast reaches 145 F and the wings,thighs/legs reach 165 F.

What gmc said....
what temp did you cook it at? I smoked a 15# turkey recently and it was finished in 7 hours cooking @230*.

But to answer your question, yes, you can finish in an oven.

Got to agree with everyone above.
Did you use a separate thermometer and probe set up to monitor the smoker temp and the internal temp on the turkey?
9 hours should have been plenty of time unless your smoker was not keeping temp.

And as indaswamp said, you can finish the bird in the oven and it will still be good.
