After several weeks of troubleshooting the Cookshack new IQ5 controller, the problem with the FEC-120 has now been sorted. The new revised controller board seems rock solid. For background on this see the original FEC-120 thread http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/229763/my-new-toy-has-arrived#post_1435799
My wife is away at the moment so this weekend I had the time to get my new cold smoker fully operational. It is a converted commercial upright freezer that is stainless steel inside and out. It had been sitting by the side of my shed for some time and it was about time that it was converted from a garden feature into a useful smoker.
Once the compressor had been removed and the top cut down it was moved into The Smokery, alongside the FEC-120.
The hole was cut for the smoke generator and the mounting bolts inserted
The smoke generator is a variation on the "mail box mod" idea but this was using an electrical control cabinet and a stainless steel tube. Holes were cut along the underside of the tube and a fine mesh baffle (not shown) fixed to the top.
The unit was tested overnight and it behaved perfectly. The generator was started at around 6pm last night and at 6am this morning it was still going strong
When I opened the door of the smoker this was what was inside
I am looking forward to using it with a load of Salmon, Trout and cheese tonight.
