Hey everyone, I am new to the forum and was looking for some help with my fridge build. I have managed to get ahold of a 1956 GE De Luxe. I want to build the best smoker possible. I was going to purchase a top of the line one but I feel like you get a sense of pride and accomplishment when doing all the work yourself and what you have is one of a kind. I have the fridge stripped down to the shell. I am currently having a 16GA steel box made to slide into the fridge. My smoking chamber is roughly 16 Cubic Ft. I am going to use about 1 1/2" of insulation on each side. I bought a 1500 watt heating element that will be controlled by the Auberins WSD-1503CPH. The biggest question I have is if there are any other components I need to install into the smoker. I have read a little bit about fans. What are the benefits of using a fan in an electric smoker and where is the best place to install it. Any help you could give would be great. I will post pics soon

GP, morning and welcome to the forum.....   You have found the best smoking food forum on the web....  There are many folks here willing to share recipes and ideas to help you become a great smoked food junkie...

Sounds like you are well on your way to building a very good smoker....   Have you considered the AMNPS for a smoke generator ??

It is a great smoke gen... It will be a great addition to your Auberins controller....

Commercial operations use fans to circulate the heat and smoke in their smoking operations... In a small home operation, a very small computer type fan might work....  most folks just rely on convection from the heat source.....

The air inlet and venting are important to good quality smoked foods also....

If you can, take pics during the build so others can learn.....  We love pics here...
