I've had my ECB for less than a year and recently it started tripping the GFI. I figured the GFI was worn out so I replaced it. That lasted all of 20 minutes and the new one started tripping. I also get a mild zing when I touch the unit sometime. I can't see any place where the element is touching the case of the smoker that would lead me to think there is a leak to ground.
Obvious answer is don't use the smoker but was looking more for trouble spots I should look at.

An electric ECB ???    I thought they were all briquette fired.... Did you modify it to electric ??   The wiring may be touching some part of the smoker...  Fix it before something really bad happens...  The element may be cracked and causing the leakage also.... Inspect everything....

Note the model number here so we can help you....     Dave

X2.......If anyone takes apart an old heating element you will find a nichrome  wire in the center enclosed in a metal tube filled with white ceramic insulating compound.  The ends should be sealed. If the element is bent, the insulation inside is crushed and if for what ever reason moisture enters the element the result will be a ground fault.      Just my 2 cents worth.
