ecb TOO hot!

Hi all.....I made all the usual mods to my charcoal smoke and grill....legs on the outside, drilled many holes in pan, put a vent on lid.....before I did this I couldn't get it up to temp.....now I have the opposite problem, its running way too hot! I'm using the minion method, could i be using too much coals?

You have a water pan in there? I used to rely on the old ecb exclusively and found the water pan to be essential in that baby. sometimes with ice.
