Dumb Question (easier than dumb mistakes)

How many of you guys elevate the ash pan off the drum bottom...If so why.

I was planning to set the ash pan directly on the drum floor and was told there needed to be an air gap. Coal basket is on 3 in legs.

Ash pan can be on the bottom and the basket sit 3" above the ash pan.
