Dual Probe Maverick ET-733 Thermometer

I have had a Weber wireless thermometer for approx 8 years and still works perfect today, but is single probe. After reading about the Dual Probe Maverick ET-733 Thermometer in this forum, I was thinking about getting one. Then when researching this thermometer, I read several complaints about the probes and cable saying that the probes need to be more durable and that the cables don't like water. 

Is this a problem with this Maverick thermometer? That cable is going to get wet inside the Smoker from the moisture in the Smoker.

Well, just about anything electrical doesn't like water. The ET-733 probes are fine if you only dip the probe ends in water--boiling water, that is, to calibrate them. I think that the people who complain the probe wires shorted out fairly quickly at the solder/crimp point got them wet, pulled on them, or otherwise abused them. I've been using my Maverick since last year with no problems but I think at some point the wires will short out form one thing or another. Because of that I plan to buy a couple of 6 ft. spares from Todd Johnson.
