How do i get my wife to understand that drinkin' and smokin' go hand -n- hand. I only drink on the weekends while i'm smokin' and i catch so much __t for it.

It is UNNNatural not to have a beer in hand anytime there is smoke and meat involved. I am a woman....and I just couldn't do it without a cold one. Tell her it would make the experience even better if you had a partner (her) to share in the perfect marriage of beer and smokin'....o....and beer in the belly of the cook makes for a tastier meal!! ;-) JMHO lol

Does she just not want you to drink at all? I can't imagine a world with smoke and no drink.
If only you could marry a beer, or PoRkLvR, sounds like she gets it.

I don't know, I guess it depends on how stubborn she is...you just may not be able to change her mind on it.

Spending too much time in the john? You know, 1 beer in, 2 beers out

my wife is happy I am home drinkin on the deck while smoking vs out getting in trouble.

I think she gets mad because i start smoking so early and drinking early. then when my friends come over they want to drink, then after we eat we make a bon fire and drink some more. i'm pretty buzzed all day long. I have a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old that she ends up takin' care of. That's why she hates it.

Now the truth comes out. Can't say as I blame her for feeling the way that she does.

U answered your own question-maybe she wouldn't mind it in moderation?

Smoking without drinking?
Drinking without smoking?

I don't get it...... Don't they go hand in hand.

Yeah, maybe you need to find a way to help the little lady and let her enjoy in the fun.....

I am sure that somewhere there is a scientific study that has proved conclusively that drinking beer while smoking meat is beneficial to the body. It will have been proved that the beer washes away harmful creosote and toxins off of the surface of your mouth, throat and innards. Thus saving a person several thousands of dollars in medical bills down the road.

Allowing of course you and your wife to have a safer, healthier life together. She should be thanking you instead of mocking you.

If there has not been such a study, let me be the first to volunteer my services for the betterment of mankind. Just doing my part, no need to thank me.

Tell her it is in the bylaws of smoking meat that everyone manning a smoker "Shall consume beer"...

GnuBee, come on over and we will smoke some goodness, drink a bunch of beers and see how good you feel.
I'm willing to bet that we would feel pretty darn good after that, I think the study would be in the booze favor

Ever gone too far and you plus your friends think the smoker is a copier and start making copies of your asses?

Don't know what to tell you. My wife doesn't even notice. But then if I was getting drunk all the time, that I'd get an earful for. Might want to remind the misses (nicely) that "Gee honey, I'm home having a beer and smoking, while (your buds) are out drinking and driving and stuffing dollars in underwear all over town.

Or just be a man, and beg.

You only get one chance to be a good father....if the drinking impairs that....then it is time to change something. That said I am in the same boat some days. I drank all day on Sunday, and caught hell for it. I also only drink on the weekends....

Whats worst is being epically hung over and getting up at 5:30 to throw some ribs in for lunch. Sweet bejebus why did I think that was going to be fun when I was drunk the night before and set 10 alarms to get me up....

But you do have to have beer in hand while smoking. BUT the key is how many you plow through. Try to keep it in moderation.

As to make the wifey less annoyed with it. Let her do it for a chance, no im not talking about smoking and drinking beer. But let her get tanked at home and you take care of the kids a few times. Even things up a bit.

Well, my kids are 4 and 8 now...I didn't get into smoking until a couple years ago - so they would have been 2 and 6 (I'm awesome at math :-)

A 2 and 6 year old are a lot easier to tend to than a 1 and 3 year old. Like someone said, you answered your own question! Mama doesn't like to have to do EVERYthing while you're having fun outside.

First off, start drinking later. I've made the mistake of thinking that I NEED to start on beer when the pork butt goes on, but what kinda shape could I expect to be in when the damn thing takes 10 hours to cook?!?
Then - by the time guests arrive, you're sloshed...

This weekend, I had a couple Baily's and coffees around noon - didn't have a beer until 2 pm, and I went slowly with them from then on.
Also, I'll get the fire stoked right, and then take the kids and the dog on a 30 min. walk...helps get the beer-blood flowing

and mom has time for a bath or a trip to the store without the kids, etc.

Compromise is the name of the game when you're hitched...

You nailed it - you having fun, smoking, drinking, then add your buddies to it, all day while she takes care of the kids - I'd me ticked too. Don't get me wrong - I'm the one who does most of the smoking at my house and I am all bout having a few cold ones - but you have to look at the whole picture....

No help from me, I rarely ever drink, been married 27 years and the wife and kids have never seen me drunk, only my opinion but I have better things to spend my money on.
