Hey I just wanted to ask if any of you still have a dream one day of having your own BBQ joint or if you have punted on it ?

I read lots of posts by all kinds of smokers and was wondering how many of you have a BBQ place now or want one ?

I see many bad points of owning one but I still want to try one day .

The dream is to have our own restaurant, doesn't need to be a bbq joint, but that would be cool, there is none in my area, we are saving, and waiting until our boys are out of H.S., since most of our time would be at the business.

I fantasize about getting in the catering business. I do so many friend / family functions for free (because it's fun), I often think. "I wonder if I could get paid for this???"

I would love to do it. Part of what holds me back is the "what if" in me. I have a 2 year old, plus the wife, and I can't help but think "what if" it doesn't work out? Then I get scared and clam up to the idea.

I think starting by doing some caterings would be the way to do it, but the problem with that is my current job requires me to work every weekend (unless I use vacation). Even if I use vacation, the weekends are when I make the majority of my money (retail sales).

I'd love to have a restaurant that caters to southern cooking and smoked meats, but the logistics are a nightmare. Maybe one day when I can afford to lose money...

I or let's say my wife wanted me to have our own restaurant but I know what kind of commitment it would take and I don't want to or have the physical being to run a restaurant. I could cook for one but like Remark talked about of hobby and a job. Now I would like and I'm looking at it pretty hard too. about starting a catering business for there you have control over the amount that you work. I really enjoy cooking, smoking and making sausage and bacon for people. But I don't want to do it for a job day in and day out. Now I have been told by many people that I should open one but I also have been told by future clients that I have the skills and the recipes for doing some catering for them. Now I would entertain the idea of catering.

Having worked in resteraunts on and off for many years.... no, I don't want my own place. Way to much stress and work... lol.

My idea is to find somebody who does want all that stress and work, but needs financial backing. Then I can just show up, eat some free Que, have a beer, collect a percentage.... or something like that.

I have dreamed about owning my own restaurant for years. I have worked in the restaurant business before and know that it's not easy. I have given catering a thought but like some of you have mentioned, I am concerned about the commitment. The financial part of it, to do it right, is on my mind also. You definitely have me thinking about it.

id never want a restaurant to much overhead. Id love to do some catering on the weekends since I'm not working fridays anymore. Besides I like being outdoors. Owning a restaurant is to much of a commitment.

I was very interested in it until I researched the ins and outs. It is not the work or hours that scare me away it is the dependance on the public to be dependable. I simply couldn't deal with aiting for folks to come in and buy something. I am more of a chase them up and down the streeting convincing them to buy it kind of fella.

I want to open a bewpub bbq joint but unfortanetly i did not recieve my bailout and i am broke.lol but if it never happens i still get the awesome feeling when someone bites into one of my qs and gets a big ass smile and says damn thats good

easy answer, yes. I've got the smoker, lot of equipment, we even own a building built in 1917 on the original route 66. I'm just not ready to jump in yet, got 2 kids in their twenty's that don't know to be $elf $upportive yet. hope it happens $oon.

Yup, would love to have my own bbq place. I have thought about starting with a bit of catering, to judge any demand for what I can make. I have a couple of requests for this summer, but they are based on my dutch oven cooking and not smoking.

For me I have already found out turning a love into work is not good, well not good for me. I wanted my own martial arts school and after a while found I was losing my love of the art. So for me I will just be smoking for fun
