I'm looking into getting a wireless thermometer. I've seen a few on here in pics but never saw any info on them. I was just wondering if i could get some insight from those of you that use them often. Like brand, cost, and where to find them? Do they have multiple leads for temp of meat and the smoker itself? All I've seen so far is one at Home Depot but it looks like it won't last very long.

Check out the maverick in my profile details. It's awesome for smoking overnight, while mowing the lawn, or if your inside watching the game. One probe for meat, other for smoker temp. Can't beat it.

Looks to be exactly what I was looking for! Price isn't bad at all either.  I still have some shopping around to do but this one definitely goes on the list of likes. Thank you!!!

I have been looking around for one as well. I keep coming back to the maverick. I can find many that are cheaper, but you get what you pay for in my opinion. I have 2 that Wally world was selling. Basically if I had used the same money I paid for 2 Wally world ones, I could have gotten 1 maverick. It is way more useful with the temp range it has over the Wally world ones.

I also use a digital thermometer that we carry in our pocket at work...... There are some that cost around $90 and are much bigger and harder to carry or the pocket model that is easy to misplace and about $15..... Pick your poison......

I like the fact that it has temperature alarms on it. I hate it when i go inside for a little bit and come back out to see the temp dropped out. Also...i don't really like opening the smoker to take temp readings. Those 2 perks alone makes it completely worth it to me!

And... his service is Impeccable

I have had the redi check made by maverick for 5 or 6 years now. The probe just went south recently so I might be asking santa for a 732 soon.

While I don't see anything wrong with askin' Santa for a 732, you might also want to check into getting a replacement probe. Of course, I'd wait until Santa comes through then get the probe and you'll have 2.

I bought replacement probes for my Redi-Chek... I'm not positive, but i think they are the same ones used on other Maverick digitals. I also have a "Thermapen"  which is an instant read pocket thermometer... really about 3/6 seconds! I have friends that use the "guess" method with their meats.... not me... never again! There is never a doubt about the doneness of your foods with digitals.

I have had good luck with the Maverick 732 remote. One probe for pit temp and one probe for meat temp.  Much better range than the old Maverick 73.

Good luck and good smoking.

they are made by maverick. mine says maverick on the back in small print

thumbs up on the Maverick 732 digital. Have not lost a signal anywhere inside or outside out 200' to back of property line. Also use the PT-100 instant read
pen and it works great for inside and spot checking while smoking/grilling.

I use Maverick 732 digital which was recommended here, it's fantastic. It's very accurate and I can sit inside watching the game while keeping an eye on the temps of both the grill and the meat. It beeps if my grill temps change to high or to low and when my meat is done. This single tool is probably 90% responsible for my smoking to always come out at least pretty good from my first attempt. I may need to tweak a recipe or do things different which is what is taking lots of practice but at least the meat is always cooked to the right temp. Never overdone or underdone.

I recently bought the Maverick 732 dual probe wireless thermometer.  I had a difficult time calibrating it in 212* boiling water and 32* ice water.  I also had issues with the thermometer that you hang in between the rack grates.  That never seemed to give a GOOD temperature.  The MES 40 is notorious for being a crappy gauge but this wasn't much better.  All that said, I have returned mine Monday and am waiting for my new one to come.  I solely bought that Maverick ET 732 based on the tons of reviews on this site.... Maybe this will help others too....  Question:

How do you guys/gals use the thermometer probe ?  Do you stick it in wood, a potato or do you use that being of soft metal to suspend it between the grates ? If so where do you suspend it ? Top, middle, bottom ...etc ? ?

Thanks,

Tony

OK, so the new Maverick ET-732 arrived already!!!!  I've placed it in a glass cup of crushed ice with a little water.  I'm getting the two readings , Food = 39 and Thermometer = 36.... AM I doing something wrong or is this normal due to the water in the glass ?

I would hate to give up on this thermometer and I understand that it's only a few degrees off but it should read 32* no ?

Thanks

Tony
