What started out as an idea to make bbq better tasting has actually turned into an obsession? Last year about mid- year I bought a 30 inch Masterbuilt Electric Smoker. Main purpose was for backyard bbq’s share a little with friends and rake in the comments which were always good. Free bbq whether good or bad people will tell you what you want to hear.

About 6 months in with a 30 inch smoker I wanted something bigger so I upgrade to a 40 inch gave my son my 30 who really didn’t have the funds but wanted to indulge into my new hobby. I have done a couple butts, briskets and so many ribs I lost count. I give a large portion away as I am always trying to better myself from my last smoke. Like I said my friends always give excellent compliments, but I know in my heart it can be better.

Don’t let your heart rule your mind over a woman, and don’t let your heart rule your mind for better bbq because in the long run both will cost you. I have been smoking on my 40 inch MES for about 5 months and I want better. So today I ordered the   (REC TEC Wood Pellet Grill - Featuring Smart Grill TechnologyTM) from amazon. I didn’t stop there I also orderd a Smoke Daddy’s Big Kahuna smoke generator to hook up to it.

My question: Is there a cure for this disease? My credit card is taking a beating in search of some of the best Q.

Much more than a disease. It's a way of life. A disease generally attacks your body, they attack your immune system and replicate until they are all consumin. What you have my friend is much worse. Similar to most on this forum you suffer from a psychological disorder. It attacks your thoughts, hopes and dreams until nothing else matters except a thin blue line of smoke.

Welcome to the madness......

I don't Know about the pillows, might look funny dragging those to EM but I have a couple shirts that stinks of the high heaven of smoke.

This was intended as just a backyard bbq, but it just overwhelmed me. I can't explain it, this smoking is a lot of work but the rewards are so great. On a scale of 1-10 as a smoker I am maybe a 4 at most but my friends and family members think I am the greatest. I don't smoke anymore for great eats, I just do it because I love it.

Honestly this is crazy, I started making hard cider the wife was not on board with that. So I shifted gears and all is good. Except nothing seems to be good enough as I keep buying meats, buying rubs, making rubs looking for my niche. What was holding me back is a good smoker. I took care of that today and I am happy with this purchase. I may be less than a year into smoking but as I gain experience I feel I can move on looking for the best Q I can produce.

I love my new hobby with a passion, it gives me peace of mind and I love feeding people with good BBQ.

It is no laughing matter, as I taste test my cook before I turn it loose on the unsuspecting. I may not eat much after it done but have to admit the taste testing has more than rounded me out just a little. Its not about me, it about perfection and I love this. I like smiles, but many will ask how did you do this and I say I smoked it.

Well many will  parboiled or just cooked them on the grill this is good for most even me up until now. Nothing wrong with that, as that is an example of what I did before I started smoking. What a world of difference, not to mention in taste and tenderness in my meats. I love this, just need a hotter smoker for chicken and turkey.

Amen...... Let me put it like this. Back when I used to chew tobacco and smoke cigarettes I would wake up in the morning and the craving would hit me. After a meal, the craving would hit me, with a nice glass of Crown.... You guessed it the craving would hit me. Smoking meats gives me that same feeling. It's similar to if someone is smoking the brand of Cigs you do, or if you see someone put a dip in. If I'm at work and my Co workers are talking about smoking a nice tri tip, (this is Cali) or BBQing some ribs, that craving hits and it won't stop until I break out the MES, and put in work. And I totally understand the fact that you smoke to try to achieve perfection. My main motivator is my family. My kids think I'm a rock star when I smoke. My 8 year old son wants to stay attached to my hip so he can learn the ways of the force with smoke.

To be honest I'm still new to this, and a padawan myself, but the force within grows stronger every day.

I don't smoke cigarettes but I chew and the cravings are hard to ignore. Just like this smoking of foods I am always buying meats, commercial rubs, making homemade rubs and the buying of different equipment. The upside my wife knows this all is harmless except the urge to make more Q and she gets out of the cooking. I get a real sense of joy out of this because I am feeding my passion and getting better as I go along.
