Got an American Harvest at Walmart for about $50. Works great. Really good instruction booklet too. It comes with a couple packets of jerky cure and seasoning to get you started on that path. Haven't used those yet though. Use it to partially dehydrate tomatoes for pie.

I also own an American Harvest. I have used it for apples, bannas and plums. Haven't tried the jerky yet.

like they said, hit walmart for the american harvest one, it's actually a great unit and I've used them for years myself on jerky and all other items.....cheap and good and that is how it should be.

they come with 4 trays but can expand to 12, I've got trays from old ones that I've burned thru over the years......can't go wrong with these things.....

My wife recently bought a Nesco model.  She seem happy with it.  She's doing all sorts of drying of in season things such as green peppers, and sealing them in jars with her food saver.

Here is a link to the model she got.  There are a lot of reviews on it.  Price was about $45.  She actually got it from Walmart.com because Amazon jacked the price up by $20 on the day she was ready to buy.

And now -- since you mentioned hunting season (dare I assume you mean to make venison jerky), here is a picture I took out my front door about a week ago.  They are chowing down on dropped crabapples.
