Amended soil and tilled good. Have black gumbo here. Should've put sand in but as usual, move on. But after 10 days here we are. going to mulch, been warm. Question is, don't worry bout it? Yhis will get roots established?  Always just had heirloom growing around from old homestead stuff. First time planting. Oh yea, hardneck. Killarny red.

Looks good....  Mulch it if you can...  ~4" of straw works...  it's cheap....     Also, I wouldn't add sand to the soil.....   you could be making cement with the addition of sand...  or so they say...  sand and mud/clay makes cement...  Till in a green manure crop every year...   grow oats or barley then till before it seeds while the stuff is green...  You could seed now and till it in, in the spring...   It should grow all winter under the snow....

Heirloom has the best flavors..   good job on the Kilarney Red...

Thanks for the quick reply Dave. Let that area grow up and till under after corn, which wasn't on that side as garlic is. Old garden spot and mess around with different stuff. Getting where I want to experiment anymore.

FWIW, garlic does really well if you feed it with a little ammonium sulfate in the spring.... I fed mine every 2 weeks and watered it in...   we don't get rain here...   Once the middle stem shoots up, stop fertilizing...     You'll have some great garlic..  Ammonium Sulfate dissolves quickly and gets to the roots...  It's acidifies the soil and helps to break down organic matter...  The acidic portion allows for other elements to dissolve and feed the plants...    Use sparingly often....

OK, Dave Top is obvious shifter. 1 thru 10 plus 2 reverse. Hi low on reverse. Second pic is valves which is sandwiched between two plates and fluid worms around inside, wish i had a pic of that, Third pic is a cam that puts it where you want it. Cable on left is from shifter. For the life of me can't remember the gear on right, thinking pto cuz it is run off this also. Got an extra differential valve I screwed up, can send pic if you care.

Morning Dave... That's some system...   I was never smart when it came to transmissions...  too many working parts....   no obvious rhyme or reason to the system...    but I've always been in awe of mechanical stuff...   take the knotters on a baler...  Some guy/gal had that figured out in his head before he put it down on a napkin, then he built it...    I've been trying to figure out how they work for 4 years now...    Getting closer but no cigar...

All I figured out was just what I showed you, tranny itself is out of my league. Should send a pic of gear selections. Certain gears free wheel while others hold back and is marked on gear numbers.

Save it....   I think an "In person" perusal of the overall system, on a 3 legged milking stool with a 48 quart ice chest filled with a favorite beverage is what is need to thoroughly contemplate the complexities of the running gear on that monster.....   If I had the time and the inkling, I would head back to brides home town of Fort Scott and then swing by your place ....   BUT ....  things as they are make that an impossible prospect....   sorry....

Did some work north of Fort Scott. 20 miles west is the Kansas line from me. Good looking country.
