Cooking grate

Hello everyone. I am going to be building 2 santa maria style grills and have a question on the cooking grate. We were gonna go with ss expanded but the price is about 10x the amount for mild steel. Any suggestions on ss/mild steel? We will be using 10g mild steel for the rest of the cooker. Thank you in advance

Mild steel and coat with veggie oil...    Spray the inside with veggie oil also...
