Hello everyone

First post, first smoker , first smoker reconfigure

My question is in regards to stack height and diameter.  Does the stack length change as the orientation of its attachment to the smoke chamber changes.

If i put it as close to the center line of the smoker as a i can  would it be shorter than if i put it on top of the cook chamber?

Unfortunately no. Way to many calculations. I am looking for personal experiences on exhaust height and mounting level.

My experience with exhaust placement is put where you like and it will work as long as you have adequate size and draft. My height does not change if I am figuring a cooker that the person wants it low to the grate. I rely on Feldons calculator as I helped design it and if the measurement is 24" that is what I run with. The calculator is figured on a 1/3 rule but you also need to use a properly sized diameter exhaust. The calculator only knows numbers not what actually can happen. If you go too small it will have to be tall to compensate volume when this happens the heat slows climbing the exhaust and becomes heavy causing poor draft.

I hope this helps.

Thanks That is what i was hoping someone would say as i have already started the work. I will post pics of project soon.

Here are a few pics of my project . Moved stack to firebox side of cook chamber added a plenum, put in a reverse flow plate and cut out cook chamber inlet ( was a 6 inch pipe with damper originally) also added a baffle to bottom of cook chamber to use as a water pan/ keep grease from entering firebox.

I didn't think to take before pics( too excited i guess)
