I have read a number of posts here where people recommend using a modified coffee can to replace a smoke box. I would like to try this. This may be a dumb question but... how do you do this? What size can do you use? Do you drill holes in the bottom and sides? Do you cover the top? Step by step instructions or a picture would be great! Any help is appreciated.

if you are talking about the gosm i just lay the can flat in the spot where the wood box goes and add some chunks and let it roll you can drill some holes in the top but i dont think its needed

I use the can vertically with 3/8 in. holes all over except the bottom. I placed the fire box stand directly on the grease pan, not using the side supports, which gives me just enough clearance without having to cut the can down.
