I have struggled with high cholesterol for many years, at times it has been over 300 but usually hangs around 200. I have labs done every six months and a year ago my cholesterol was 200 and six months ago it was 202. I take Zocor but have had a hard time trying to alter my diet, I really don't like many vegetables so I just can't force myself to eat them. When I was younger I ate a lot of fried foods, I had a deep fryer on my counter all the time. I did cut out frying at home but still would eat a lot when I went out. At work we would always go out to lunch, usually fast food and a lot of french fries. Since I bought my smoker and found SMF and started smoking large quantities of meat and freezing in individual packages I started taking my lunch to work everyday. A couple of weeks ago I had labs done again and my cholesterol was down to 172, it has never been that low since I first started getting it check years ago! I know a lot of this big drop is from cutting out fast food and french fries but I also think eating lean trimmed meat that is cooked low and slow to render out fat has also helped. I am very happy! My numbers are a lot healthier and I get to eat something that I like even more than what I was eating before! Thanks SMF for making me a healthier person!!!

Limiting carbs really does work, mine went from 270 to 155.

The best book on the subject......
The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living: An Expert Guide to Making the Life-Saving Benefits of Carbohydrate Restriction Sustainable and Enjoyable.

Awesome Martin!!! That's a big drop! I'm happy for you!

I've read about those diets from that other thread you had and it interests me but I just don't know if I can cut out carbs, I love breads so much!
