I like that idea. Not only would it give the cherry flavor, but it would enhance the mahogany color and maybe give a little bit of a "smoke ring" too. Great for watt burners. I'd guess the gelatin in the jello would also add to the lip smackin' goodness.I haven't tried it but when I smoke my ribs I add Cherry Jello powder to my rub. Just add a little at a time until you get the taste that you like.
I've tried it didn't like it (I always make my own though) one thing I remember about that rub is that it seemed easy to overdo. Since pork is typically bland I like to use more rub than usual as compared to beef or lamb. So I always tend to stay away from commercial rubs.
I like sweetness on pork.
It is easy to over do. That's why I add a little at a time until I get the taste I am looking for. It's all personal preference. Or if I have time and not feeling too lazy I make my own:
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/8 cup kosher salt
1/4 cup paprika
1/4 cup chili powder
1/8 up mustard powder
1/8 cup granulated garlic
1/8 cup cherry Jello powder
1 tbs cayenne pepper
2 tbs coarse black pepper
Good luck. Let us know how it turns out. Thanks everybody for the input. I am going to try the cherry jello. Thanks again
