Some folks have used the AMNPS smoke generator to add smoke to their grills... When smoking, remember to add cure #1 to the meat at recommended rates...
Sorry the old Fire Chief in me says not to do it. It was not built for woodburning and I doubt it was tested that way. You could get hurt or do damage to the smoker and the area around it
I would tend do agree. The firebox may be designed to only handle the heat of the propane flame, which if operating correctly would never touch the sides of the firebox. A charcoal/wood fire is not as predictable. Open that door on a windy day and you can get flames in places they were not intended to be.
