Charcoal Consumption Questions

Not trying to disagree with you, but I have not been successful burning solely wood with my equipment; which is a chargriller horizontal. I think however, that this is a product of the variables related to the firebox; things like airflow, and firebox to smoke chamber ratios. I suspect that all of this relates to the temperature in the firebox vs. the smoking temperatures. In my case, I can't get the firebox hot enough to keep smoke quantity down while keepking the smoking temperatures managable. Most likely, your smoker is able to overcome this. However, I don't think you will find this in most of the smaller budget horizontals.
 
i think alot of guys jump right in and add a baffle to their offsets which will keep the temps down. my baffle i can remove real easy it just sets in and i can pull it out. i have learned to not even use it much anymore, i just build a smaller fire



try the charcoal chimney method i described to preburn your wood alittle, it works great and shouldn't be a problem even in the city limits
