Hello all ! Hope your smoke is going well. I am looking for knowledge (as usual) about the "smoke setting" on the Char-griller 9020. Everything I see is that the smoke mode is pretty much for lighting the grill. You normally want to smoke at around 225°, correct? But smoke mode on this grill really doesn't get above about 180°. So other than lighting the grill, what is "smoke mode" supposed to be for? If it is only for lighting the grill, then why is it called smoke mode?
Thanks in advance!

What is your "P" setting? You can try lowering that to decrease the amount of "idle" time and consequently raise your temp. Regardless, you may not be able to get to the temp you want on the smoke setting. On pellet grills, the higher the temp the lower the amount of smoke (in general), so I almost always smoke around 225 or 250. Still provides plenty of smoke to the flavor profile.

To answer your question though, the "Smoke" setting does produce the maximum amount of smoke even though it may not create a high enough temp to safely cook.

Smoke mode on my pit can run different temps by setting another button, yours may not have it, I have ran mine in the smoke mode for many hours without any problems, its normally around 170-180 or so
